KEYBOARDING FOR COLLEGE & CAREERS (5170)

Grades 9-12 Half Year, .5 Credit

Prerequisite: None

Students enrolled in this course will develop accurate keyboarding skills with the use of our computer-aided keyboarding software. Given the usage of computers in school and business, keyboarding is an essential part of a student’s academic and nonacademic life. This course will enable students to learn the touch system of keyboarding and then apply these skills in the latest word processing applications. As a part of this course, students will learn various types of current business document formatting using Microsoft software and Google Docs. Keyboarding will help students throughout their high school and college career and provide them with employable skills. Students enrolled in this course will have the opportunity to earn MOS Certification in Microsoft Word. Students are responsible for the fees associated with the optional certification examination.

PERSONAL FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT (5119)

Grades 9-12 Half Year, .5 Credit

This is a required course for students graduating with a CTE sequence.

Prerequisite: None

The purpose of this course is to provide students with skills for money management. Start with a goal, create a plan, implement your plan and adjust as needed to accomplish your financial goals. Learn the skills and competencies needed for success in the workplace and to begin to become financially literate. This course has also been developed to allow students to begin to meet the Career Development and Occupational Studies learning standards at the commencement level. Topics covered include banking and economic systems, budgeting, investments, insurance, credit, financial literacy, identity theft and career planning.

INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS (5080)

Grades 9-12 Half Year, .5 Credit

Prerequisite: None

Do you like “Shark Tank?” Learn what it takes to become an entrepreneur and jump into the tank with the “sharks.” Explore different segments of business activities, such as the free enterprise system, Maslow’s Hierarchy of Human Needs, ethics, global economy, government role in business, marketing and advertising. This course is a foundation course that includes a variety of experiences, case studies, team projects and presentations. This course provides fundamental business knowledge for students, providing an easy transition from school to college and the work force. Students will become familiar with the modern business environment and current terminology used in business.

BUSINESS MATH & FINANCIAL APPLICATIONS (5100)

Grades 10-12 Full Year, 1 Credit

Credit for this course may be used to meet the third-year math requirement.

Prerequisite: None

This course emphasizes the use of basic mathematics to model and explore real world financial applications in personal and business financial situations. This course will prepare students with the appropriate tools to understand PRT interest calculations, banking, investing, loans, gross income and income taxes. Students will apply these business mathematical concepts through practice and projects. Computer applications such as Excel and Google Sheets will be used to reinforce the applications and class discussions
